Alison Veneziano, a Drifting, PA native, is taking part in Penn State Altoona's Mexico Summer Study Abroad Program to Guanajuato, Mexico. She will spend four weeks total during May and June studying Spanish and Mexican culture and history in Guanajuato. While there, she will have the opportunity to experience the Mexican way of life by living with a local family and being able to interact with the people of Guanajuato. In addition, Alison will be able to visit other parts of Mexico by participating in several fields trips to such locations as Mexico City.

JUST THE FACTS...
Hometown:Drifting, PA - It is about an hour north of Altoona.  It is very tiny; my high school was made up of about 18 tiny towns like it
Major:English and Secondary Education - English Communication
Family:I have a pretty large family with lots of aunts, uncles and cousins.  My immediate family consists of a younger sister (16), an older sister (26), and a brother (28).
Pets:Three dogs - Bristol, Brandy, and Dolly

Three cats - Yoda, Cuomo, and Raven (However, the cats go by a variety of other names including Kitty)

My dad has insisted on getting ducks for our pond so we have six ducks total and we call one of them Spot

Favorite Places I’ve Visited: Puerto Rico - I don't think I have ever seen an ocean so clear and blue.  I went there in high school for my cousin's wedding.  His wife is from Puerto Rico, and we got to meet her family and become familiar with the area of the island they live in.
Hobbies:Listening to music of all kinds and reading are my two hobbies.  And though I love music, I still have never managed to learn how to play the guitar or any instrument like it.  I've got a harmonica, though, and play around with it a bit.  Other things I enjoy doing are: cooking and baking anything and everything, acting in/helping out with theatrical productions, writing anything, whether it be poetry, short stories, or just odd quotes people say when I'm hanging out with them; watching movies with friends - preferably horror, satire, drama films; and, of course, handing out with my friends at my older sister's house (we usually sit around and sing songs while someone plays the guitar - good times)
Favorite Movies:I can never narrow it down to just one movie so - some favorites are: The Last Waltz (with The Band), Bob Dylan's No Direction Home, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Cinema Paradiso, Ghost World, Benny and Joon, The Phantom of the Opera, anything of the sort.
Work:Now, while at Penn State Altoona, I tutor at night at the Grier School for Girls to save money for things like studying abroad.  I'm hoping to get a job this summer (after the Guanajuato trip) tutoring/counseling for the Upward Bound program at St. Francis University.
