From the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society
John Casanave, PE, President

On behalf of the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society, I would like to express our sincere condolences and sympathies to the families and friends of all the people whose lives were affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

As President Bush has asked, we all must carry on in light of what happened and proceed with our normal lives, even if our perception of normalcy has changed. In doing so, we can all take pride in receiving some good news. The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society recently received a Special Certificate of Appreciation from the Penn State Alumni Association for its sponsorship of the annual Midwinter Dance. The Society was recognized for its efforts in providing a program to connect Penn Staters with each other and the University.

Over the past 13 years, the Midwinter Dance has become more than just a social gathering. It has become a tradition that unites the community with Penn State Altoona. In addition, proceeds from the event have been used to fund many alumni and student programs that might not otherwise exist.

The best part of the Midwinter Dance tradition is that it carries on and gives us all something to look forward to each February. This year, our Dance Committee has put together another great program and will again present the music of the Billy Price Band for the second consecutive year. The date of the fourteenth annual Dance is Friday, February 22, 2002. Last year's event sold out, so please don't wait until the last minute to get your tickets.

Once again, I want to publicly congratulate the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society Board of Directors for sponsoring another great activity and to thank the Dance Committee for all of its hard work in planning this event. Information on how to purchase tickets to the Midwinter Dance can be found elsewhere in this publication. I hope to see you at the Altoona Bavarian Hall in February!
