John Casanave, PE, President

As my term as President of the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society comes to a close, I look back upon the experience and two words come to mind: "appreciation" and "enthusiasm."

The appreciation is for the terrific group of dedicated people who comprise our Board, the always helpful faculty and staff of Penn State Altoona and the Alumni Association, and all of our alumni and friends. "Thank you" just isn't a strong enough term to express my appreciation for everyone who makes this one of the best volunteer organizations.

The enthusiasm is for the opportunity to help make Penn State Altoona a better place to learn, grow, improve, interact, and even reminisce. The variety of activities that this group organizes and participates in truly presents everyone with an opportunity to find something they can latch onto, become involved with, work hard, and enjoy the benefits of seeing it come to fruition. This variety is part of what makes Penn State a great University to attend in the first place, and the Alumni Society certainly carries this concept well past graduation.

The variety I'm referring to spans the gamut from gathering for a fun event to cheer on the athletic teams to the visible and important $26,000.00 contribution to the Grand Destiny Campaign. In other words, we're all about everything from having fun to raising funds to supporting student scholarships and campus projects.

I want to encourage every Penn State Altoona Alumnus to consider taking a turn on your Alumni Society Board of Directors. Make a decision you won't regret and enjoy a positive and worthwhile experience. Please give it some thought, and if you think you might be interested, please contact Jim Caltagirone at 814-949-5103 to learn more about the Board's composition and how to get involved.

Thank you again to everyone who has helped with all of our efforts!
