Run for Wounded Heroes

The Army ROTC Ranger Challenge Club of Penn State Altoona is hosting a 10K/5K race Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 10 a.m. The course begins and ends on campus and winds through streets and roads of Altoona.

The entrance fee is $20 with all proceeds benefiting the Pittsburgh branch of the Fisher House Foundation. The Fisher House provides military families with housing close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease, or injury received during combat operations.

Registration can be done online at or on the day of the race. The first 150 registrants are guaranteed a t-shirt. Participants should arrive by 9 a.m. A children’s one-mile run will also take place following the 10K/5K. There will be awards for top finishers, and a check presentation to Fisher House representatives. Community members may make donations the day of the race.

10K/5K Race(Run)

This event is open to the public. The event features the following:

  • 10K Run
  • 5K Run

This event will start after the first triathlon heat starts their run event.

Participants must be registered to receive a race number and bib. The entrance fee for this event is $20. The first 150 online registrants will receive a T-shirt. Remaining T-shirts will be distributed after the run is complete.

Race participants will be able to sign up and pay on the day of the event.

Children’s 1-mile Run

This event is open to children up to 15 years old and will be run on the "Rabbit Loop." Parents are encouraged to participate. The event will begin following the first heat's completion of the triathlon. The event should begin after the completion of the 10K race/run to allow for parents to run both events.
